We were told we couldn't connect through the channel to shadow lake, which was fine since grand lake is so big by itself. the entire lake is surrounded by homes, however, so just be prepared to not get total wilderness in grand lake. like most canoe/kayak/boat rental places, the joint seems run by teenagers..
